Barranquilla for (pre) Carnival, Part 2
Barranquilla´s Carnival slogan is “Quien lo vive, es quien lo goza.” I believe that translates to “Those who live, are those who enjoy it,” but then again, high school Spanish class was a long time ago! In any case, you can tell that the people of Barranquilla certainly know how to live life and enjoy themselves!
UNESCO has even declared the Carnival of Barranquilla as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
It was so cool to see so many people partying on the streets!
Lots of vendors too…
One cart was selling rice in a banana leaf – Sri Lankan style!
Everyone, regardless of age, seems to be a huge fan of Carnival.
You get the sense that this really is the biggest event of the year, and everyone goes all out. There were tons of cute little girls decked out in matching costumes, performing routines. The older ladies could still strut their stuff as well. It must be in the blood!
Had no idea that UNESCO listed it. that is really interesting.
I didn’t know either until we googled information regarding the events!
